BE SURE OF GOD’S CALLING

You or the leaders of your school/organization should seek the Lord’s guidance before finalizing their commitment to establish a Bible-based educational ministry in your community.

DETERMINE THE TYPE OF SCHOOL TO START

Set up a committee of people who share the vision of a Christian school. Together with the planning committee, you have to determine what kind of school you will want to start, where and what kind of school would your environment need?

You will also need to consider what grade levels to start from; preschool, elementary, middle or high school. It is advisable to conduct a feasibility study at this stage. You may contact people with the experience in this area.

There is great wisdom in starting small. Consider starting with preschool and grow your school steadily.

DEFINE YOUR VISION AND CREATE A MISSION STATEMENT FOR YOUR SCHOOL

At this stage, it is advisable to attend the Administrators Training at the ACE office in Jos. You will be guided on the process of creating your vision and mission statement.

INCORPORATION

Determine the type of registration to go for; a sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability Company, or a non-profit entity incorporated by trustees. Seek the service of a Lawyer who will file to secure a school name. The type of incorporation you chose determines the opportunities available to you. Other legal assistance you would need includes; compliance with government regulations, school constitution and bye-laws, agreement for lease or rent, etc. Draft a Constitution for your Christian School and involve your lawyer to check for legalities.

BUSINESS PLAN

You will need to develop a business plan; the business plan should include a financial and marketing plan, an educational plan that details your approach, curriculum focus and goals that details individual students planned outcomes.

You will also have to prepare a tentative budget using projected number of students and the tuition rate for each student. Determine the number of teachers and non-teaching staff that will be needed and the start-up cost. With your tentative budget, you can proceed to raise the initial funds to start your Christian school.

SECURE YOU SCHOOL LOCATION

Locate a facility to house your school, or better still, you may decide to develop a purpose build school facility from scratch, if you decide to build, then at this stage, your building must be almost at completion stage.

After securing the facility, clean-up, order fixtures and furniture and ensure that it is all in good condition. Your facility should be freshly painted at the time of resumption.

You may need to conduct an in-house building inspection.
